Why Learn Kotlin?

Kotlin is used to create all sorts of apps and services!

Android Apps

Want to build Android apps? Kotlin is used my most professional Android developers, with 95% of the top 1,000 Android apps using it.1 Google has officially supported Kotlin for Android since 2017, and Android's own development has been Kotlin-first since 2019. Android's most modern tooling, including Jetpack Compose, is built for Kotlin.

iOS Apps

With the advent of Kotlin Multiplatform, you can even use Kotlin to build iOS apps! It's possible to share some of your Kotlin code with Swift code, for things like business logic and networking. Or you can go all-in on Kotlin with Compose Multiplatform, to create a user interface in Kotlin that can work on both Android and iOS!

Desktop Apps

Speaking of Compose Multiplatform, you can even use it to build desktop apps, so the same user interface code that powers your mobile apps can also run your app on a desktop computer.

In fact, the new Compose Hot Reload feature for desktop makes it incredibly fast to see your changes applied in your app, updating as you write the code.

Server Side

If you want to build services, you can use Kotlin in conjunction with Spring Framework. In fact, the Kotlin and Spring teams have created a strategic partnership to make Kotlin + Spring a strong stack choice.

Or, if you want a lighter-weight solution, the Ktor framework provides a simple but powerful way to use Kotlin on the server side, designed for Kotlin's coroutines.
